I'm near to rent a new server, and a friend of mine told me that the location of the server is also important for us, because we target google.com for the english-language-knowing people.

This thing is unlogical for me, but may be for the SE not. I'd like to read something about that from SEO experts, so if anyone has a link, please share.

Your opinion is also important to me.

If you're targetting a particular country, then your best bet would be to host your site on a server that is physically located there. Also, try to reg a country specific TLD and get links from websites which are either hosted in that country or have that country specific TLD.

So,

1. Host your site in that country
2. Register that country specific TLD
3. Get backlinks from websites hosted in that country and/or
4. Get backlinks from websites having that country specific TLD etc.

Then there's no use losing sleep over it. But, it will be more difficult than targetting a certain country in terms of time taken, efforts etc. :)
