Hi,
I'm in the process of trying make a decision on how best to proceeds regarding using sub domains for different content and SEO.
Scenario:
I have website (A) at www.main site.com. It contains content solely based as news and nothing else. Has good PR and ranks good all round.
You then want to try and create a community online via a forum section. The content in website (A) will display articles, and each article will have a snippet of forums comments at the bottom it. And a call to action for the reader to join in the conversation on that topic. All the snippets would link to the forum post
The Decision/Question:
Does anyone know if there is a preferred way of structuring where you place the forums.
1. www.main site.com/forums (a directory of)
OR
2. forums.main site.com (a sub domain of)
I was assuming that if you used solution 1. you would be muddling your content-lead area with community based directory within the same url.
And if you chose 2. You would be saying this was a separate domain, that links to the main domain (visa versa) but would be seen as a community of related content connecting to a site full of dedicated content.
Have I got the wrong end of the stick, missed a trick, lost the plot!?
Any advise, comments, examples are welcome.
Cheers in advance
