I have a site that is four years old and i just registered a new domain that i want to take the actual orders on, could that hurt the good rankings i have with the four year old site?
The four year old site, 7000 +/- pages and all informational, the new site is going to be more professional looking, but will only have about 10 or 20 pages.
What you link to can effect your ranking along with content changes..
Also networking between 2 sites "can" cause problems..
You have many choices and you need to make the right one for your site(s)..
If your really worried you can always use javascript to link between the sites...
Personally I'd link between the sites but i'd take it pretty slow e.g. set up a page on the old site saying something along the lines of "if your want to buy x then click here" this would then only count a 1 link form 1 page.. You could then expand this over time and maybe use JS as well.. Just an idea..
This also depends on what the present ranking is worth.. Is it bring in a hell of a lot of traffic and will that traffic convert...
Check your reffering keywords.. Are people searching just for info or products/services ?
Hope that helps.

Thanks, I was thinking the same thing. Guide all Traffic to one page on the old site and on that page link to the new site.
Just an opinion..
If you feel its a risk the do the maths.. Is it worth losing.. ?
