Ask really takes a long time, Sam.

Have you head of Google's Sandbox? Well, Ask's is even worse :)

Getting indexed in Ask?
It's easy. Get a handful of links from topical blogs and sites. Be patient.

Is Ask worth getting on? Does anyone know the volume ask has versus other search engines?

Hi, new here and just thought I'd chime in.
We get 1% of our overall SE traffic from ask. That volume really isn't worth much effort at all.

Today, Ask is in position 206 in www.alexa.com (http://www.alexa.com). Google is 3rd, Open Directory (dmoz.org) (http://dmoz.org/) is 212th.

Alexa seems to be a good guide for such decisions.

Using google analytics and goal monitoring, it should be noted that over 5 of our sites in the past 3 months, not ONE SINGLE visitor from ask has converted.

We are constantly split testing and multi variant testing and this just goes to show that ask has not got the ORGANIC volume. We do not run any PPC campaigns with Ask but that may be a different story.

I think its wasting time trying to get indexed or ranked on Ask.

If you rank well in the major SE you rank in ask too ... my opinion

It doesn't seems a good idea to judge Ask.com by watching what alexa says. Everyone is bashing alexa, but now you use it to judge ask.com?
Ask.com is surely not used by alexa users, IMHO.

I kinda like the Ask.com layout... And their results are OK. But perhaps I am saying that because I am indexed and ranked there :)

The last time i saw, i think ask had about a 5% share of the search engine market...

Google had about 77% of all online searches in May, with Yahoo and MSN holding about 7% each... (According to hitwise) This doesn't leave alot left for ask does it?

If you can get in there by optimising for Google, Bonus! If not, i wouldnt bother

I think its 5-6% for MSN, 15% for Yahoo, and abou 2% for AskJeeves

Ask.com seems to have stopped their very strong T.V. Promotion

I find it excruciatingly difficult to get anything out of Ask either as a client on the search end or as a researcher on the other search end. For the last 4 months I have been doing research and cannot seem to find anything. The majority of searches are very redundant - in fact i feel that my best research has come from wiki. You know how in Google you can apply advanced search methodologies, can you do the same in Ask. Please let me know. Thanks Dany.

Especially now that ASK has announced they are going to start focusing on a completely different demographic in more of a vertical approach to search. We'll see where this leads...

The only reason ask and other search engines exist is to keep google and yahoo from combining into one uber monopoly. It is already close to this madness for google already, I mean besides Oprah, who has more power?

Sorry to be slow in response to the question. There seems so far off in relation to here. You have to ask, is it the goal or journey that you seek?

From its pearch on the Cherry tree
A blossum is carried away on the wind.
Wihout effort the gentle stream
carries the blossum to the ocean.

Here was the Cherry Tree. There was the ocean. How did the blossum get there? Without effort or thought.

Its takes 3 month to get listed...

Where did you get that idea?

As far as I know, a webpage can get listed almost instantly, as well as never, or anything in between.

Can you show me an official source that claims it takes 3 months?

As per my own experience. I think you should use their Sitemap options.

check ask webmaster guide FAQ question 22.

There you can submit sitemap to increase the chance of geting listed fast.

Ask is really not worth at all... I would use Ask only if Google is closed for maintenance or closed forever?
