We are looking into buying links from sites that are within our niche.

My question is what would count the most as a quality link?

A. Relevancy
B. Page Rank
C. Alexa Ranking

Hi there Senator,

If you are beginning to establish your campaign, relevancy is the best criteria to utilize when purchasing links; however, if you are wanting to get your site spidered..indexed...and ranked (meaning PageRank) it would probably be best to focus on mid-high PR sites that have trust rank from Google/ Yahoo.

Alexa ranking really doesn't tell you much; however, the lower the number, the better - they say.

If I can help you out any further; please don't hesitate to contact me.

Thanks,

I didn't read through all those threads that Gab listed above yet, but another thing to always look for if you are going to pay money is how the site is doing in Google. run a site:domain.com search on it. If the page you are going to buy the link from is a subpage and it isn't indexed in Google, your wasting your time. Or if you are paying a little more for a sitewide and most of the subpages are supplemental it isn't worth the extra money as well.

Double check the site and make sure Google will be able to find your link if you are going to schill out some cash for it.

Site wides arn't great imho..

I'd try and get the most logical subject to link to the most logical page..

Webmaster will often do this for an extra $..

e.g.
A site/blog about fishing guides..
info about fishing rods links up to your page selling fish rods.. simple as that..

If the site uses adsense have a look a the ads being show.. This gives u a good idea to what google's theme of that page is...

This page is showing right now is showing adsense for RSS... So rss ap's this page would be perfect for .. of course this page isn't indexed but I hope you get the idea..

This depends on what you want. If you want traffic from that linking, then alexa ranking and relevancy are most important. If you want an increase of your PR, then higher PR and relevancy are the most important. And in any case, relevancy is essential, or it will be a waste of money.

Obviously traffic is what i am looking for as the more traffic you get the more business you do, Having a high P is just a status thing.
I just need to be able to understand what i am looking at on Alexa for the traffic ratings.

alexa is part of amazon / a9 and if you use a alexa toolbar / amazon tool / a9 tool bar it collects data from what site you visit..

The alexa ranking gives you a very aprox figure of your site situation on the net..

This site is ranked @ 2,073...

The thing is that is really way off.. I have sites that rank badly in alexa but have a fair amount of traffic and other sites that have a great alexa ranking and low traffic..

Basically the best way to look a alexa ranking is if your target market is people with the above tools bars then its spot on.. if not its pretty useless..

I personally do use it but not with much weight ..

oh almost forgot it can of course be manipulated..

Alexa is very inaccurate..

google analytics isn't to bad... Google uses a javascript so if the user has js disabled its doesn't work..

I use and extremely appreciate the SEO Quake toolbar for Firefox! It is very customizable, showing Google PR, G pages indexed for particular site, how many inbounds; Yahoo in pages indexed, how many inbounds, Directory listing; Alexa ranking; DMOZ listing; Age of site.......

You gotta use Firefox, and download the extention.....but the time to do it will make it worth your while!

In addition to creating a good quality incoming link from a credible third-party site, your paid link strategy should also take into consideration the ability to generate traffic directly from the third-party sites.

Go to Google and Yahoo and type in your primary keywords and see which niche directories are rating well. Those are probably the ones getting the most traffic, and hence, provide best value for the link -- both from standpoint of good quality incoming link (because the search engines have rated them well) and because they can also direct traffic to your site.
