Hello, everyone I am pretty new to the roundtable although I consider myself and seo expert. My site is around 7 months old and I started on the finishing touches to the key areas of seo about 2 months ago and boom "The high rankings began" My sites main key word gets searched around 3-400,000 a month in google and now almost every keyword that is related to my site is really highly ranked.

I blew past everyone else in my category and there websites have age to them and thousands of links.

What does this tell us all, Do something the other guys are not doing and you will receive.

I beat the age factor, the so called sandbox which doesn't even exist, link count

Hi,

Welcome to the SERoundtable. Care to share the keywords you ranked for? and the domain/site?

I would be interested to see this.

There are some highly searched keywords that are not Sanboxed terms meaning that by registering your domain name and adding links and content you will begin going up, maybe your keyterms are among them.

No, no and no again. People their is no sandbox. It is just a nicer way of saying hey, you are not doing your seo abc's so it will appear as if you can not rank well. I have a buddy in the same category as I and he has been trying for over a year and is not even in the top thousand in google. Needless to say though that will be changing.

Hi James,

I'm new to the roundtable too but an eperienced SEO professional. I don't think its unusual to get to the top at all, and I agree with you that it is no such thing as the sandbox, not anymore. I just started my SEO blog about a month and a half ago and I am already on number 1 on Google UK for the key term "SEO blog UK".

My view: Relevant Content is King

Simple as that, too many professional SEOs gets carried away with link building that they get distracted about what is really important, the content.

I work for a Marketing agency and run the SEO department, I have around 15 clients and my SEO consentration has always been to optimise content (keeping it relevant of course) and the secondarly built backward links (again relevant ones).

Hey Lisa,

Welcome to the SERoundtable.

"SEO blog UK" is not a search term, no one search on that so sure it's going to be easy to get ranked for that, i could write an article and quite easily knock you off the top spot.

There seems to be a mis-conception between being ranked number one of Google and what the keyword actually is.

My friend Dan Thies told me something that has stuck with me. I quote Dan "If it's not being searched on, it's not a keyword" and i think a prime example is "seo blog uk". If you was ranked number one for SEO Blog that would be a diferent storey.

This original thread is quite interesting, i have been doing SEO since late 1997 and sure i've had my success in getting sites ranked for major keywords like "loans, mortgages" etc and still to this day i get sites ranked for those terms. Unless Black Hat OR Grey Hat is being used, i truley do not see how it is possible to rank for MAJOR keywords like that in a matter of months.

A project i finished two months ago stuck in my head. They was already ligering in position number 16 and they came to me to help them reach the magical top 10. It took me a year to get them into the top 3 ranking for "loans" and to this day i still am consulting for them.

My title is a Google SEO Consultant, i specialize in Google SEO and i ONLY use White Hat strategys.

I'd never in a million years call myself an "SEO Expert" because the truth it, no one is an expert in SEO.

I still am rather interested to know the keywords and the site.

Hi Lee,

Ouch, a bit of a harsh reply there. To be honest I find your reply condesending and rude. I was just saying I believe it's is not as difficult as people think to get to the top of the SERPs and that I believe having relevant content will get you there.

I didn 't say I was an SEO expert, I'm an SEO professional (and I have experience). And although it might not be many searching for "uk SEO blog" or "SEO blog UK" it's still a keyterm. You might well disagree of course.

And by no means is this my only experience of getting to the top of the SERPs, this is simply my own blog (and it is the first time I am optimising a blog).

Is this a roundtable or a "lets be rude to the newbie" table?

It's not a search term at all. Go and check http://inventory.overture.com - you will see SEO Blog but not SEO Blog UK.

Harsh? not really. I don't sugar coat my words as i tell it like it is. See you go to any SEO forum and you will see there are many self proclaimed seo experts but the thing is many no nothing at all, because they have ranked for some obscure keyword and think they know nothing at all.

Many of my clients ( and yes most of my clients have been and are Fortune 500 company's) respect my no nonsense talk. Seeing as there is no formal qualifacation (or non i know of) to become a certified SEO Consultant, many companies have to take you up on recommendation and face value and i know though out my years i have seen many con artists get good money out of companies. In my experience telling them to the point without pulling the wool over there eyes has worked very well for me.

I can't agree more with you when you say about the content, content is king and your quite right in what you say, but on the flip side content is useless unless well optimized but being user friendly at the same time and as we all know.

I'm not trying to tear you to peices, i think it's great that you have become number one for your given term and i respect you for that - congratulations.

I'm still looking forward to hearing about the OP's excellent ranking mind you and am very interested in it.

Fair enough Lee. But I do have referrals from Google to my blog from people actually using the term "UK SEO Blog". So someone has searched for it, it's not thousands, not even hundreds but that wasn't my point.

I have clients that I have ranking at #1 on Google UK for VERY competitive keywords (also got a Google PageRank of 7 for this company).

I'm all up for being up front and honest Lee, just tone it down a little for the first timers on the roundtable eh? You don't know enough about my skills to be patronising me.

Cheers

Well you might not call yourself an expert but Not to be cocky or anything but I would call myself one. What is an expert you ask is it a person who can acheive results and be able to predict the changing tides. So my friend I am an Expert you might not be buy hey not everyone can be. Your probably one of those who says hey google is all about time and link building then eventually in a couple of years you might get in the top 30 for a 4 to 5 keyword phrase well hey that isnt me. 2 months man everyone elses sight around me is bare minimum 2 years old . All white hat techniques that only the REAL EXPERTS use

Lee
11-26-2006, 02:56 PM
So come on then Mr Expert - quit talking like a big shot and show all some proof.

You shoot your mouth of yet your still to tell anyone the keyword(s) you ranked for.

JamesDNash

I will not publicly tell you this. Just no you have to have the right recipe. If you want to know its gonna cost ya Period. You ask what would this be worth. I have less than 100 links, my site is 7 months old and every key word phrase that I write about on my home page is high ranked. So you ask yourself what would this be worth to you. Completely white hat techniques and it is a solid foundation that will not dissapear. My main keyword in overture remind yourself this is through yahoo not google in the slower seasons around 100,000 times, so ask yourself since google owns search then its got to be atleast 2-400,000 in the slow months in google. Then all of my other keywords in overture are 5k -15k in slow months.

So if you want to know break out the dough. No bs. Also why would I tell you my site and keywords so you can figure out the recipe then everyone would knwow.

Oh and by the way "Seo blog Uk" Is not a keyword and if you are consulting for people I hope that they are not paying you, sorry

Lee
11-27-2006, 03:20 AM
No traffic to my site? lmao - defininely full of shit James, really and truley i've never heard so much bullshit in my entire life.

Just shows how much you know isen't it Mr Expert lol.

Really James your shooting your mouth of again blah blah but yet you STILL can't provide anything to show me or the other members otherwise.

Now i can certainly see why i dont go to many SEO forums because this thred is a prime example of bullshit.

Oh by the way Mr Bigshot - just so you know your are correct, the site is less than a month old yet i have 2000 subscribers - but i get no traffic right? lol

I'm done with this thread.

This is ridiculous.

Who is anyone to call themselves an expert. Stop using bad language. Be respectful and stop being childish.
