I just stumbled across this:

Mediasmith's chief search officer looks at the implications of Google's decision to charge for access to its API.

To many this is important news. Can some expert opine on this?

The author of this article seems to have no real idea what they are writing about.

"Capping access to the API and instituting charges for heavy use may well be The Search Goliath's first stumble."

The API has always had a cap on how many reqeusts you can do per day. That would not be something new.

If google ever did a paid version I assume it would be similar to that of amazon/alexa where by they would still have the free 10k queries a day but if you went over that limit they would charge you.

To be honest reading the article was a complete waste of time... no offense to the author but they need to do a lot more research.
