Have you seen the tip Google has added to 'blog related' searches?
http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&safe=off&q=blog&btnG=Search&meta=
"Tip: Want to share your life online with a blog? Try Blogger"
Is this new? It seems to be accross any search with 'blog' in the query.
haven't seen it before:confused:

I just find it amusing after Matt Cutts recent comments about hard coding products into search results after the whole should Google advertise on Google argument - http://www.mattcutts.com/blog/im-on-debunking-duty/
"I agree that buying ads where other people can outbid you is much better than hard-coding the search results page to favor someone. That’s what Yahoo does with searches like [online advertising]."
Thats pretty much what Google are doing with their 'tip'.

Hang on, didnt i just say that...
yep ...
Must of been spotted else where too
I've seen more - similar - tips recently. At work, they are urging me to try the G toolbar. (Duh, I don't need it and can't install it). I'm gussing the number of these things will grow and grow.

I don't really have a problem Google doing with this, providing it's clear they're not fixing the AdWords or organic results in their favour.
Yahoo do a similar thing for messenger searches (http://search.yahoo.com/search;_ylt=A0geus0lG4tFokwBysRXNyoA?p=messenger&prssweb=Search&ei=UTF-8&fr=ush-ans&x=wrt).

How about if Google occupy top spot in paid listings aswell?
So effectively occupying 3 spots (paid, natual and the 'tip')..?
Its not exactly a level playing field...

Yeah that's a good point, they don't really need 3 listings on the one page. Maybe they shouldn't be bidding for the keywords where they've added the blog tips.

It does indeed.
I blogged about it here the other day.

It's their playing field and they can do whatever the heck they want with it, IMO. I kind of like the fact that they can do these types of tests and pretty much ignore the complaints. I would not be surprised if they shifted very popular keyword results back to giving G Base or Local or AdWords the territory. In the case you describe, then maybe it's time to lower the max bid for those particular terms which trigger such G dominance, and focus elsewhere. This could also boost G towards giving you back the space you want, especially if other competitors do the same thing. OK I'll stop rambling now...
I've still got to give it to google.. Its only 1 link tip..
Any it can be fun too ;)

Perhaps they are going too far with this, the blog link is appearing for anything with blog in the title even site: and link: searches.
Plus I've just done a couple of searches on Google, the first came up with a Froogle link at the top of the page and the second had Google Groups at the bottom of the page. I don't think these are anything new, I'm probably just finding them a bit more annoying now. :D

Looks like the 'tips' have been removed.
