I have just launched my 1st directory http://www.biz-dir.co.uk I have started advertising the directory heavily, it already has a good amount of backlinks and it is getting crawled by Google regularly, you don't have to pay to get listed all you have to do is link back to the directory from your links page, you can submit here.

Because it is my 1st directory I don't really know what I'm doing so I would appreciate any suggestions anyone might have.
Best Regards

Congrats on launching the Directory Dave!
I have a quick suggestion....... have you thought about seeding your empty categories with sites? It might help to get the ball rolling with submissions if people saw other sites listed in some of those cats.
Make it look different imho..
Its looks like loads of PHP Link Directory sites.. What are u offering that going to make my submit let alone link to you ?
Personally i'd code one myself..
Just imho

I have given away a few free listings to people to try and get the categories more populated (anybody who wants a listing on this forum PM me and I will add your site). Gabs I know the directory is the same as hundreds of others and it annoys me, I will look into getting a new custom design for it. The top hits page as just got a PR4 the rest of the pages have PR0 very strange, I think Google has changed the way it assigns PR I am finding that pages that offer good info. are getting high PR as apposed to pages with lot's of high PR links.

SlowSEO.com approved and added to the directory!

Are you sure you confirmed your rating? I never got any notification through that it had been rated, My directory has many PR5 pages now (Wohoo) time to start charging!

Yeah, I followed through everything (am sure I clicked on the email verification link)! Weird that you didn't get the notification.
Wow that's great, how did you get that rating this fast??? Or is it just because of the PR update that recently hapened. Where your pages ranking high allready?

Don't matter about the rating thing, thanks for doing it anyway, I only lauched it Mid-December, I entered it into the Directory Contest and built up quite alot of natural links because I was in the top ten, I also got a few of my customers to link to it for me, got a few directory listings and listed it at http://www.directorycritic.com.

It's not free? And so expensive.

My PR hasn't dropped and a $20 review fee per anum makes it one of the best value for money directories on the web.
BTW - I got 20 submissions in an hour the other night and I have only just started marketing it.

I'm not saying your a liar, just find it really strange. I too saw that PR 5 last week, but when I look now I get this (view image):

Maybe it's just the datacenters, but shouldn't they have been synchronised in a week.
Anyway. Good job on your submissions. Looks promising!

It will just be your datacentre!
