If you feel that the directory could be a valuable resource for people visiting your site then link to it and get listed, if not then it might be better to pay for a listing.

If submitting to recip Directories is something you want to do, consider this:
If a Directory allows you to use kw in your achor text and
If the Directory page your company link will sit on is indexed in G and Y and
If that same Directory page doesn't host an overabundance of ads/adsense/etc then
I'd do it if your site has a place to put the recip link so it blends in with the rest of your content and
When you link back to the directory, point to the page your company link sits on. Meaning - link back to yourself.

Do it when you first start promoting your site. Try to get some easy PR and then start being serious. If you link back to directories that have been deemed bad neigbours by google you will get punished. Either check the PR's (if the PR bar in your Google bar is grey it has been punished) often or avoid the risk when your PR starts going up and delete the links.
Remember it is a common fairy tale that google punishes for being listed in directories (your competitors could simply add you if this was true), but linking to bad neighbourhoods can get you punished.

Exactly. NEVER EVER link back to any directory unless you are 100% sure it is trustworthy and is strong enough that it warrants a reciprocal link.

if it has a good pr or is really worth it to link at why not? but as they said, be sure that it is a good directory because you can get affected once it is not.

If the site has higher PR and if it can benefit your site reciprocal linking can be a good choice.

I will choose paid or reciprocal links for higher PR directories only. If it's less than PR3 in the linked page, you'd better not link back.

Why do you say that hhheng?

I think hhheng means that when it has a high PR (3 or higher) it has little chance to become a bad neigbourhood, so you'll probably be safe linking to it.

Zhoog - Assuming  that's what he meant......
Pages show (or don't) Page Rank for various reasons (size, age, webmaster talent at internal linking). To make blanket statements that you don't want to link with pages/sites with less than a Page Rank 3 could mean you leave a lot of money and rank opportunity on the table.
Page Rank has little to do with link popularity and less to do with ranking overall. If you're looking for a tool to use to determine whether or not a page/site is "worthy" of linking with - use the search engine results.
If the page/site ranks well for your keywords (or ancillary terms) then I say go for it - as that site has a FAR better chance of helping you in your overall SEO efforts.
How many times have you seen a page showing lower Page Rank scores out-rank those with higher? All the time. I use the meter of green as a quick criteria to be sure something is showing but never as the ONLY one.

Hmm, maybe 4-6 times a week, but if you want better backlinks, try paid or free high PR directories

Hi, you can check out the following list -
http://www.valuedirectories.info/
where around 1250+ Free webdirectories are listed.
Also never go with reciprocal links because this can penalise your website and never help you in the serps, on the other hand try for one way links with placements in relevant directories.

Yes it is worthing if it is related to ur site. But keep in mind that google give priority to one way links then to reciprocal link.

Take one way links as much as possible. Consider reciprocal links as last step for link building to promote your site in well manner.

I heard that alot of reciprocal backlinks may actually hurt your rankings and send you darkness of SERP.

If you will take Quilty, relevent links with good PR sites And those sites who does not make link exchange with bad sites ( adult sites etc. ) And those sites who lies at not common ip address then you need not be worry with drawkback of backlinks.

Hi
for me, I never use reciprocal links. Although one way links takes lots of time but its worth it specially from free directories.

PR and relativity to your site are some of the few considerations that you should think first before you tie up with reciprocal links to directories such as that.

Instead of submitting to reciprocal directories submit to free regular directory (a good one way link). You must submit to directories in order to achieve one ways links 'coz One Way Links is good.... Increase your IBL rather than OBL... And you can also submit to reciprocal directories that is a quality directories...:boxing:

I think reciprocal links in directories are good to increase your traffic otherwise if you want to rise your page rank then you have to submite your site through one way link(free link). Which will definitely gives votes to your site and you will rank good on google(search engine).
good luck!:p

Recirpocal links are good to rise your traffics, but if you wish to rise page rank then you have to concentrate on one way link(free link).Which will definitely help you to increase your page rank.Bcz this type of link is realy giving votes to your site for ranking.
Good luck!:p
I do not think that it is needed to provide reciprocal link to free directories.lots of one way available submit to them.

If it is a national directory (major) then yes. Just make your link a proper SEOed link.
The directory's link on your site should be on a 4th level down page that is a PR 0 or not indexed page.
If the page becomes indexed and recieves a PR 2 or above, then add a "nofollow" to the directory's link or just delete it.
The most you will then gain is .1 PR from the directory but you will give up more. This is just dumb.

IMO if it's a free reciprocal link don't go for it. if you are going for free link try to get a one way link. it would take sometime before they approve it but it is better that way.
