Hello,
I work with a website called carpet.it, obviously it is an Italian domain name. The domain has a hosting account with a UK host.
Will this domain name come up in UK search results?

Cheers,

Sadly now with google you need to pick a location of your site..

e.g. host in the uk and get links from uk site.. Of course the best tld is .co.uk for the uk market..

But if your market is the world then go for a .com but google will drop your uk serps in favour of usa .com serps unless you host in the uk and get loads of uk linky's

Aah right, well i have been linking UK links to its so that should be cool.

The only reason we have the .it domain is for the "Carpet it" name :P not my idea!

Yes that would be fine, .it domains hosted in the UK can be included when searching pages in the UK on Google. For example view this search (http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&rls=GGGL%2CGGGL%3A2006-30%2CGGGL%3Aen&q=site%3A.it&btnG=Search&meta=cr%3DcountryUK%7CcountryGB).

Hi - newcomer here,

If I want to get an Italian .it site, do you recommend that I can host it in the UK, as long as I get italian links. Google will then count it as Italian even though it is hosted in the UK?

Sorry forgot to put that the site will be in Italian.

Google sort a website by the IP, not by the things like "it", "uk", etc. But why you to do this? Anybody visit your website has to go to UK first, and then back to Italia to parse the url, and then back to uk for the page content.
