I am redesigning my website. I offer web design, hosting, domain names and optimisation. I have heard you need to keep under 64 chars to get the full title in google and list keywords with most important first with the title beinf the most important aspect of SEO. Also different title on every page.

Do you think the following follows good practice for the business i do?

I had a dilemma as to specify my area (eg town, region, country) or add my company name?

TITLE (63 chars)
Website Design, Hosting, Domain Names & SEO: CML Web Design Ltd

Also how should I vary this for each page? Keep the business name at the end on every page and add relevant keywords at the start for that page but keep under 64 chars?

Thanks a lot
Chris

Have a look at the k/w that your going after and only look at the title in the top20 ...

Think which one would I click on...

Now for me and many others its much better to target title for keywords.. What is the chance that someone is going to be looking "Website Design, Hosting, Domain Names & SEO" In the same search..

Now if this is just on the homepage then is may work for you but "focus" is the key..

If I was looking for hosting a saw you offered more then personally i'd be more likely to click on a different title that was only mentioning "hosting"

Those are the keywords that cover the main services i will be offering

This will just be on the home page, i intended to narrow it down on other pages. ie just concentrate on Website Design in the title on the Website Design page etc. Is it better to narrow it right down to these keywords (plus business name again at end) or add in a few more words to make it a meaningful sentence ie Professional & Effective Website Design?

Always go for what would read well in the serps.. Its one of the biggest mistake made imho..

In regards to the company name then either a "-" or a from reads well..

The services that you offer are very competative.. Even aiming for local well take time so imho make sure you inlcude "town, region, country"

But adding town, region, country will push it well over the 64 limit for google which is the main search engine and you wont see some of it anyway? I expect i either have company or location on there.

I know what you mean though as if i was looking for a service i would look first to my home city. I would then type in web design and the city name for sure. I presume research has shown this to be a common way of searching.

What i will maybe do is the following:

HOME PAGE - 86 chars
Website Design, Hosting, Domain Names & SEO - CML Web Design Ltd, Town, Scotland, UK

(The area will get cut off in google unless it selects part of a title in its search)

OTHER PAGES (eg WEBSITE DESIGN) - 57 chars
Website Design - CML Web Design Ltd, Town, Scotland, UK

Would that be wiser?

Cheers

The name of the company already states the fact your a "web design" company..

So no need to repeat.. you can of course mix it up..

A page offer info on web design and website design hmmm seperate them...

"CML Web Design Ltd, Town, Scotland, UK" Would be enough for me imho!!!

I was just thinking people use either term web design or website design when searching for these services?

yep..

I hate repeated words in titles eg "design" ..

I was going to show you an example of "web design london" but most repeat...

Its up to you but i'd personally split "web design" and "website design" accross the site and target anchor's at the separate pages..

Altthough the title seems very important, you could easily add your your extra keyword in the H1 or H2 tags. Also anchor texts are far more important, especially in the web design, hosting niche (very competative)... just page titles won't make the difference. Probably going for a local customers will give you more income.

Don't point for the stars right away. If you're just starting off, depend on word of mouth for your first customers in your local town or country. If I were looking for a webdesign company offering hosting as well I'd first be lloking in my own town, so I could visit them with my baseball bat if things went wrong. If you want to get customers give them that trust, because they'll only give you their money for years to come if you provide good service.

Also, think about where you'll get your main income from. from hosting or from designing and updating a website. I think the last. Besides. if somebody looks for web design they usually trust you'll take care of the hosting and domain names as well.

So... I'd go for: CML Web Design Scotland

Short and to the point. Your description is for what other services you offer.

Hi -

Unless you are targeting your services to a large and competitive local market, I would keep your location out of the homepage title.

Create another page on your site targeting your local market specifically designed to promote your local services, then get some "deep Links" to that page.

Try to use a term at the beginning that is attractive and unique for your title tag.

i.e. 'Premium Website Design, Professional Site Hosting & SEO'

These three services are closely related, and work well together. For your domain services, again, create another page on your site.

Don't vary it for each page. Look at the page content, and design your title based on the content of each page.

I think better to add your company name. It's more interesting and look better.
