this page http://www.seohome.co.uk/2007/05/02/grey-bar-for-new-pages/ also has a gray bar.

I honestly never noticed the difference between gray, white, etc.

Is this really a big deal?

Is this really a big deal?

Imho.. it is .. Looking at my logs this morning I go and have a looky at any new refferals. so I always check out the root domain before the refferal page..

Bam grey bar spam site scraping content from me or the serps..

Before it would be white pr0 and you'd never know if the site was indexed without checking the cache etc..

I thought the White PR vs the Gray PR distinction went out the window years ago?

Used to be:
white = index / about to be index and not banned.
grey= banned (keep away)..

I haven't seen grey for a long time..

Right --- but I haven't seen people talk about the PR color in a while. I'll blog it up question style...

Yes, you are right.

Even, my personal blog on wordpress have giving me now a grey PageRank which was PR 2 earlier on.

But I don't think, its like Banned in Google or something like having grey shed in search engine. Its still in rankings. You can search it by my name - "amit verma" in Google. Its on Page 1.

Even if you can see the page in which we are posting our views, having a grey PR.

Well, from my view, it will take time to understand it. It might be that PR toolbar is not working properly. Even, it has happened many times earlier too from Google.

Lets wait and watch Guys.

It simply means the page is dead.

All and only our new pages posted last week have a grey PR or 'no PR infomration available'. I think they will simply remain like this until the next PR update.

In my one of site whose index page is having PR 6 and few pages which has earlier PR 5 is now gray. I found by my disclaimer page as gray.

I understand that Google has made supplementary / duplicate content pages as gray. Gray means they cannot pass any page rank. How ever they are in SERP and also in Cached

My personal take is that pages which are less relevant and probably are not good enough to pass relevancy have been marked gray.

You could be into something, I have noticed that the company profile pages in my directory that are being put on new category pages are not ranking as well as they should, the only thing that is holding them up is content and trustrank, this could make it so that SEO takes even longer to kick in, if this is right it is not good news for my blog that I am about to launch:

www.seoco.co.uk/blog

It might mean that it will take 3 months before my posts start to rank properly, unless of course they attract external links.

the google pr confuses me to be honest.... I understand the importance of links but I still really dont understand how sites are indexed and why some pages are skipped or pushed back to being indexed only every 3 moths or something.

Yeah i've been noticing this as well. I would imagine (as stated earlier post) that all new pages wont get PR assigned until the next update.

I've started a completely new site since the last big update, every page has a grayed out pr bar, yet it is fully indexed and ranking well for all my target keywords.

IMHO google only invented the PR bar to confuse SEOs. It really has no use whatsoever these days.

Having a Google Toolbar Grey bar, (pages that look, according to Google’s toolbar for your web browser, to have no Page rank) while it may have no apparent detrimental affect to ranking the actual page in SERPS.
