Site Ranking Poorly in Yahoo But Well in Google

Do you have a site that ranks well in Google (top ten results), but poorly in Yahoo (not in top 75 results)?

If so, please post the URL of your site. The search querie(s) that you rank in the top ten for at Google but you do not rank in the top 75 for at Yahoo.

One of my clients' sites is having a terrible time with Yahoo . Here are just a few of his Google results:

fashion boots for women 8
kids military wear 1
long leather coats for women 1
mens motorcycle boots 4
military accessories 5
military wear 1
womens military wear 1
womens work boots 10

None of the above phrases are in Yahoo's top 100.

I have this problem.

For the search term ' bulgarian property ' we are ranking #6 in Google.com
We have never ranked well in Yahoo! but we was in the top 30. In the last two months we droped down to ~150 position for the same search. The website is escapetobulgaria.com and I will be really happy if someone can point me at some direction for resolving this problem.

I think that you should be happy and not start tweaking that site, google owns way more of the seach market and if you are ranking with them then I would stick with it.

I feel that if you take up a submission with yahoo directory it my help, also yahoo gives a lot of importance to title tag and keyword rich content. I think this might help.

I my experience seems that with Yahoo it just takes more time. My site is also top 10 in Google for some pretty tough keywords (content + backlinks), and it's only now - after a year since the site was launched that Yahoo gave me #11-13 (it fluctuates) for its search results.

Maybe just more time?

I feel the same. I take 2 month to get my website at 4th position in Google SE but my website still at 45th position at yahoo SE. I think, i need to do more wait for getting yahoo blessing.

I don't know whether I am a bit late with this thread but my ranking with Yahoo is of great concern and in trying to find out why I found the Search Engine Roundtable.

I am having trouble with a lot of search phrases but these two (which respectively do around 16,000 and 9,000 page views a week) are the most prominent:

The search phrase is "How to make sushi" for which I rank number 2 on Google but not in the top 80 on Yahoo.This is the page: (I have been told to remove URL so message me if it is required)

Another search phrase is "Yorkshire Pudding" which ranks 7th on Google but not in the top 80 on Yahoo. This is the page: (I have been told to remove URL so message me if it is required)

It might be that I am doing something wrong but the site used to rank well with Yahoo a few years ago. The site is now over 7 years old and has 3,800 published pages.

Any helpful comments would be good.

This is something I also need some insight on. I have several client sites that have the same problem. One example is:

Google.co.nz rankings:

mortgage brokers No.1
insurance broker No.1

On nz.yahoo.com

mortgage brokers No.99
insurance broker Not in Top 100

This site also forked out the $199us for yahoo directory... Goes to show doesn't help with yahoo rankings...

From past experience & investigation Yahoo seems to like onpage factors alot (let me know if you disagree) and using a lot of keywords repetitively (not endorsing stuffing) seems to work.

Also it looks to me that meta tags are weighted in their algorithm.

I have the very problem you mentioned RB, and I was ranking well with yahoo in the beginning and not so hot with the other top 2. Now I've shot up with google and stayed much the same with msn - but I'm definitly getting punished by yahoo robots for some reason. :mad:
I'd be interested to know what is happening - but not at the expense of the google p r - google is where its at for my site in the early analytics results so I'll have to keep them happy.

the issue is the same as the question you posed.... yahoo, what to do. I know there is a problem. i don't want results in one engine at the expense of another.
To compound the problem, i've gotten an articale in a national newspaper and they got the site name right (yay) but even this will mean pr and robot points for the site and paper is pre 2000. So next round of crawls this will get worse with yahoo. I am making changes at the moment but I don't want to go further down the wrong path .....
Any other ideas??;)

There are literally dozens of reports of this in that thread. Plus I have received phone calls and emails to this nature from many people asking me why.The simple answer is that Yahoo Search is a different search engine than Google. They rank pages differently. But for Google to rank a page within the top ten and for Yahoo to not rank that page within the top 100 - is there something wrong?

Yes, different search engine have different algorithums by which they rank a site. MSN is pretty easy to figure out how they rank a site. Yahoo and google are more difficult. With google backlinks count the most.
