Blog going a bit slow!

The SERT blog seems to be taking ages to come up, anyone else noticed this? Is it because it is getting hammered with that much traffic?

It might be my computer but when I am putting comments in in particular it seems to take it's time.

Comments always take a relatively long time. The amount of comment spam this site gets is through the roof. So it takes a bit of time to chug away on it.

In all honesty, the blog needs to be on its own dedicated machine. But the money made from the blog does not pay for it.

Maybe I should ask for donations for a new machine?

Might just be a US /UK pipe line issue.. Seen it many times before ..

The slow thing for me is always the left hand nav.. I got faster a month or 2 ago but now its go pretty slow to load up first thing in the morning UK time..

the left hand nav is slow because we are pulling those rss feeds from wmw, cre8, sew and dp forums.

Might make sense to drop them, but i think it represents the site well.

Webmasterworld is just hp rss could be like 20mins cache on that.. Cre8 the same.. ;)

I love magpie, it uses cache but checks for updates and only pulls if changed ...

Server upgrade is coming in a few weeks. That is phase one of the upgrade. We will be also moving to a dedicated blog server...

Things should improve over the next month or so.

Rusty, it might be useful to start a how-to forum thread. I would certainly like to read about the obstacles you face running a forum of this size. (early apology if one exists already)
