Improve your landing page quality. This is probably the biggest factor if Google are forcing you to pay $0.50.

A simple method of checking the landing page, which i find works quite well is go to the landing page press CTRL-A, CTRL-C, open Notepad and press CTRL-V (select all, copy, paste). Then press CTRL-F (Find) and type in the keyword, count how many times it appears in the document. If not many your page is not that well optimised for the search term "tito ortiz". For something like that to be regarded as a good page you would need plenty of content about his life and times etc. Improve the page and resubmit the keywords into a new ad group and see if that improves things.

A good page example would be titoortiz'DOT'com

Many people may think keyword density is gone, but if using Adwords, AdCenter etc. it is definitely something you have to take into account :)

Google provide a good tool in AdWords which tells you your quality score. This can be accessed under the Keywords tab at the Ad Group level.

If you can't see a Quality Score column you can add it by clicking on 'Customise Columns' and selecting 'Show Quality Score'.

To get a lower CPC ideally your quality score should be 'Great' and this can be achieved by a Keyword Focused Ad and Landing Page which was mentioned above.

Try using a lower bid, and automatic position within your keyword settings. I am sure you will save your money.

Moreover try targeting regions rather than countries.

It will save you from click fraud to a great extent ;)
