Already in the mid of December there were some news about a Google engineering center in Germany. So reported heise (http://www.heise.de/newsticker/result.xhtml?url=/newsticker/meldung/67525&words=Forschungszentrum) (in German) that Google confirmed that they are planning an engineering center in Germany. There should Google services be localized, but also developed new Google services. At the moment it looks like Google is searching for the head of this center: Engineering Center Director From Germany (http://www.google.de/intl/de/jobs/openings.html#ecd_de)
The location is unknown, but I would tip "Munich". With about 80 % market share in Germany it should be a good idea to faster localize for the german market. For example we wait for the start of Google Local in Germany ...
