Hi All,
I'm new to seoroundtable and need some advice. Below is a hypothetical scenario. If I want to target the key word "hard rock music", but hardrockmusic.com is already taken, which option would help my seo more:

hardrockmusicmaster.com (which adds an unnecessary word but includes all of the key terms)
or
hardrock.com (which is a highly searched term, but removes the keyword "music")

Is one significantly better than the other for seo? How important is it to have your key terms in your domain name? Any help is HUGELY appreciated.
Thanks,
DiverDown

I guess for me it depends on my goal, if your building a company and must have the kw in the domain shoot for a .com.

If your just trying to make a living off of adsense, affil traffic then the extension in my mind is not as important, when adding the kw in the domain.

Best!

Ben

I could give you an option for hard rock...how about heavy metal. It is an equally commonly searched term.Metallica redefined it.Try it out.

There are also branding aspects of a .org, .com, .net, etc because more know about the .com. Domain shows your business type also.

Try to add a word to "hard rock music" and use it in your title as well as in your description.

It depend more on how good is the SEO for your website. Domain name is just 1% of the seo so please don't worry about that and concentrate more on search engine friendly design and SEO but still if you have an option go for hardrock.

I think its important to think about branding as well. Is the site easy to remember, are you going to invest a lot in branding? If so than shorter names tend to work much better for branding.

If its just like a made for adsense site or earning site then id just for for having the whole phrase in there, but i wouldn't make it longer than 3-4 short words.

A well-defined domain name can provide tremendous advantages for an online business, including the added benefit of boosting performance in the search engines. Simple, easily-recognized domains convey professionalism and trust to search engine users. Just as important, however, is the fact that businesses can extend their reach in the search engines through a generic domain name, or through a domain that uses a country specific extension (see Country Code Top Level Domains below) to provide localized results to potential customer.

As for my information there is no importance of domain every thing depend your product and that information how you are representing your product in website

I dont agree with dilshad, domain name is the introduction of an website and it plays a significant part in enhancing visibility of website over search engines and hence must be treated with all due respect.

A domain is definitely very important and you cannot consider any domain name for any of your website. You should make sure that your domain name is relevant to the website content and the products you offer.

If you have a keyword related to the products you offer in the domain name, it will certainly be a benefit to you. Also, you should also make sure that your domain name should be short and easier to remember.

I totally agree that the domain name you choose can add HUGE value to your site.

I take a lot of time to pick the best I can find.

Keywords within the domain is an advantage, just like having keywords within the website title and description.
