Link bait is content on your site to which other sites link naturally because they want to, not because you ask them to. It creates more links to your site, which really do help you in the web promotion. you don't have to get on your knees and beg for the links because you will get many links naturally.

Check the following tips for link baiting.

1) Quality of link bait should be not just great but it should be good looking.(Good colors scheme).
2) A great “title” for your link baiting.(It has capacity to convert your visitors into costumers).
3) Add images to your link bait beside each paragraph.(Image will change your mind perceptions on it).
4) Post your link bait in blogs and forums.
5) Add social bookmarking websites links at the bottom of your link bait.
6) Launch your link baiting articles on social bookmarking sites.(Please choose an appropriate time when you think most of the visitors will be online at that time).

Bait is considered as a spam technique when used in SEO. It provides one page for a search engine or directory and a different page for other user agents at the same URL. Sometimes it creates an optimized page and submits to search engines or directory, but replaces with the regular page as soon as the optimized page has been indexed.

it's not a spam. It depends on how you will create your content (intended for the users as your priority)

Good and unique web content will gradually bring in traffic and new links will be pointing to the respective websites. It is not even needed to worry about how to do this.

By calling it "bait" makes it a bit spammy, building quality sites/content is "atttracting."

You should use bait to catch fish.

Link Bait-
Write a good content which other webmasters find useful and would want there visitors to read, hence link to you.

It this not what Link baiting is?
I believe this is!

So if you write an informative content, having capacity to convert your visitors into costumers, why would any other webmaster want to link to such content.

This should not be called Link Baiting, instead following the traditional benefit of developing unique content it should be called a text link.

This is most common as posting articles/content at the places where the targeted visitors are expected to reach.

Link bait is not necessarily article, it could be some useful tool, software, design, etc.
