Google is eliminating "artificial links" and taking action against reciprocal link pages, link farms, cloaking and guestbooks. Then, what would be the next steps for website promotion? Offcource Quality one way links(Natural links) and lots of traffics to your site.

As we all know it very well that fresh and interesting content is liked by all search engines and it will earn lots of natural links for you. So, it is necessary for you to put some good contents on your site. While articles/press releases submissions and forum/blog posting will generate lots of traffics for your site. You may try social bookmarking/networking sites for extra efforts. Only one way quality links are the best solution for your SERPs.

Many business owners are constantly inundated with solicitations that generally say, “Gimme Gimme Gimme”. Unfortunately this makes it a lot harder to talk local business owners with websites into giving you a link.

One approach I’ve taken when looking for local links for localized companies is to offer something without asking for anything in return. One recent example was to a plumbing company within the Denver area. This is the e-mail I sent:

-----------------------------
Hello Jason,

My name is ___________. I’m a local Realtor in the Denver area and came across your website in Google. It is so hard these days to find a local business owner ranking in Google above different directories that do nothing but place banners everywhere.

Anyways, I was wondering if I could use your plumbing tips found on <Insert Link Here> during one of the frequent e-mail letters I send out to my current and past clients. Being that I work with home owners all the time I am always looking for ways to get useful information to them.

I would give your company credit of course with your company name, phone number, web address and e-mail.

Please let me know if it is ok for me to use your tips on my e-newsletter. I’ll be happy to send you a copy when it is sent out so you can see what the finished result looks like.
-----------------------------

Notice that I didn't ask for anything in return. This person can see the value in it for me and will realize that they don't have to lift a finger.

All I did with this e-mail was open up a method of communication. He most likely won't simply delete my e-mail or future e-mails.

We sent this out to five local business owners with websites we found and 3 / 5 have responded in only four days flat.

Our next step is to send out the newsletter to our clients. Each plumber's tips will be sent out one at a time. It is IMPORTANT to include them in these e-mail broadcasts so that they can see that it was actually done.

After we send out the newsletter we will be waiting a day or two and then we will send the business owner another e-mail asking if he was able to see the newsletter. Upon confirmation we will volunteer another idea where they win again... it is going to go something like this:

-----------------------------
Hello Jason,

I was thinking about your plumbing tips and thought it might be a good idea if you had tips for home buyers on what to look out for when buying a home.

Since I am in the real estate business it would make sense to write such tips. However I think that content would be better placed on your website. I'll be more then happy to write up a quick six articles that you can use to add to your website. I could probably write up two articles per month for the next six months.

I'll be happy to do this for your website since my customers already have bookmarked your site from the newsletter. It makes sense that I help promote your site further now that I have gone so far. The only thing I would ask in return is an author link at the bottom of each article.

Let me know if you are interested!

Sincerely,
-----------------------------

This is a lot of work i'll give you that but if only one of those plumbers want free unique content then i've just gained six different author links on a single page or preferably six different pages.

Give it a try if you are looking for local links. Let me know how quickly it works for you; I'd be curious to know how this concept fairs in other areas.

Hi Boss,

Be sure to share your success with this. I've done this with on cleint in on area so far and it seems to have done really well. I did notice that my client changed the version just a little for one of the e-mails but it didn't seem to hurt anything because she got a response.

What she did was include her company name and tooted her horn a little more then I would normally care for.

One thing I would suggest it that you should send the e-mail out as your client and not a marketer. If possible get your client involved and have them send out the e-mail. Involving them a little might give them a little respect for the hard work we put into our client websites.

My client jumped the gun on the very first response and shot off a "Let's swap Links!" e-mail before asking me for the next step. When I told her "NOOOO!" and then explained the whole plan she quickly said she was narrow minded and asked me for advice. We fixed the problem, got out of the reciprocal link request and the six links are back on track as scheduled.

Anyways, enough rambling from me. If you think of anything to add to this tactic do share.

I think the best way is to give something for free - usefull information, tools, software, designs, etc. People like free stuff.

Yes I agree Google is taking action against artificial links but it isn't eliminating reciprocal link pages. If that was the case the results shouldn't have been there.Reciprocal link pages are basically not cached by the SE'S.When you check your backlinks you either click on the arrow to the right of your PR bar or you type in link:name of website.com.Have you ever checked your reciprocal links in Google??I don't think so that's why you come up with such weird news.Check with link:(space) name of site.com.And see the results.Google had nothing to do with one way free reciprocal linking. All it had said that website or directories selling links will have their ISP's banned by Google and website's purchasing links without the Google adsense account will not have the link counted as an inbound or backlink when Google updates the PR and backlinks. As for SERP'S ,links were never a factor.SERP'S were more based on traffic garnered by a website for a keyword related to it.Get a Google analysis account to understand this in detail.Backlinks are for PR.And similarly traffic for SERP'S.

I actually still have good results with related link exchanges. I had a new site recently that only did link exchanges for 3 months with related sites. When the next update came from Google we were PR3.
I also do blog comments, articles, and blogging for my other sites.

if visitors find the article useful then you don't have to worry for getting quality links, that visitor will do it for you, coz they will share your links to others :)

I agree with you. Commenting on dofollow blogs is a good strat for SEO. A lot of blog sites now have removed their nofollow attribute; even blogger has a way of removing them.

One way links are of course superior, though it depends on the relevance of the page and the site from which they comes, as well as the anchor text. It's so easy to say "one way links are best" but the truth is that most sites won't one way link to yours without something in return.

I'd be careful with commenting on blogs these days, Google may start penalizing and noticing a trend if you go crazy on blogs. Never found a solid do follow blog list, if anyone has..

The good way to get one way link ...is to do directories, classifieds, and forums posting and posting your link at active places

classifieds such as craigslist, if thats what you're referring to wont do much but maybe YHO or BING will give you some credit for them. There are some decent ones out there, I had a list before, but never did too much.

I don't think finding loop holes in the search engines is the best way to build and promote a business. Try taking a proactive marketing approach. Position yourself as an expert and start writing articles or writing PR to announce interesting newsworthy events occurring at your business.

how to books and learning guides will do the same...

I've always found that articles (ezine) are a good way to promote your site. For one, they provide you with a link, but if you actually provide good/useful information in the article, you will also get some traffic from the articles. They key with article marketing is to truly add value in your articles, and not just spit out useless information for a link.

Can i know please how to post articles in dmoz ?

Wit

You cannot submit articles to dmoz. You can suggest a (good and unique!) website for inclusion in the exact right category. Read their TOS first, or else don't bother.

If it was easy than everyone would be ranking. Website promotion is no different than building any other type of business. You need to put in a solid online marketing effort utilizing a variety of different methods in order to get the results you are looking for.
