I have heard that Ther's a trend among Seo experts to lower the importance of inbound links and reciprocal placement in web directories.
Ok,I agree that content is the new king - there are more related content sitesnow a day that have a web directory/sites index with "add url" / "add site" options , with specified categories. A link pointing to a site from an index like that, can be strong and in fact relevant and indexed.
The thing is if you have submitted your link to a directory in a site that deals with travel and tourism, but due to the fact that your site deals with beer related issues you have placed it under food & beverage categories (as you should have). but most likely these categories on a travel & tourism site have a low rate of visitors and search engines pick up on that, and give rank accordingly.
On the other hand there are designated web directories were all the categories Cary the same ranking weight - as long as you don't use the same link description in all the directories (Google panelized a number of high placed ranking sites drooping them down as far as six places - for that reason) it is still one of the most reliable methods of site promoting-if Google has panelized sites for doing it wrong-probably ranks for doing it right.

I have added some good directories in the list below

It will be great to get some comments on them and their efficiency.
I have spent some time checking them out and they seam to be relevant
i will post the links as soon as im alowed

Look to a certain point I agree with what you have said. There are certain Webmasters that feel that PR is no longer a big Issue and the main thing that matters is the SERP'S (Search Engine Ranking positions).I wouldn't say that is wrong but to ignore the PR when you are optimizing primarily for Google is a mistake. It is because of the PR factor that Google is considered to be a bigger and tougher opponent.
Content is indeed the king.Google spiders love fresh content and if fresh content is added on a constant basis the spiders will crawl your site thereby caching it and indexing it.This may enable you to get more traffic.Keep your keyword relevancy strong. This will enable you to get a high SEO score and improve your SERP'S.

For directories I would beg to differ.Directory submissions are done for two primary reasons. One is to get a backlink that might increase your PR and the other is to get hits.People usually get into a paid or premium subscription to get their results quickly. But as of the last couple of updates Gogle has made it clear that people buying links w/o their adsense account will not have their link counted and those selling the links will have their ISP'S banned. Moreover for people who opt for a free submission usually finds thing tougher initially.Their approvals are pending ,and it takes them months before the submissions are reviewed.I faced a similar case for 8months before my DMOZ submissions were approved. So instead of directory submissions I would suggest social bookmarking sites for traffic. They have the maximum amount of visitors and if the topic or article that you post is of real quality then your website will have traffic. For backlinks ,forums and article postings is more secured.Just add the URL of your website to your signature. It counts as a backlink. That helps.

PR has value in and needs to be used together with actual ranking positions. Securing a good position is great, but having a reasonable PR will also get you ranking for those long tail terms.

If the directory to which you are submitting is ranking on top of either Google or Yahoo then it is good to submit your website.

Ofcourse these directories do not rank on top pages for competitive keywords but less competitive keywords like "trave tourism directory" etc etc.

I agree to all of you...I have one question: "is it worth to subscribe to directories just for the anchor text (title of site witch is subscribed) and the different numbers of IPs that point to a domain?"

Any little effort is worth it; but don't depend much on directories. Social link building is most effective -- for boosting PR, that is.
