detroitpages

This has bugged me for a while, my question is below, first a short description, I have a website called Detroitpages.com and basically its a directory and guide for the detroit area, in the past I would do "mini" link exchange campaigns for sections I just completed, for example the wedding guide on my site, I would seek out those sites and businesses that was wedding related and request a link exchange which is equally beneficial for both of us. Now when I create a new section I also create a links page for that section which basically makes it a little website within a site, for the reciprical link I always request my link on their page point to the sub section on my site for example - the wedding guide page. should I be asking them to link to my home page instead?

Look linkbuilding has many procedures. For Inbound links you would either wait for a link from a directory or a link form forum postings or article submissions, that is if the page where your signature containing the URL of your page is cached. As for reciprocal links ,one way single reciprocal link exchange is the best.Instead of linking a website to your homepage and asking your partner to do the same why don't you create a separate link page and post in the links of your partners. But be careful. As from the latest update that Google had made it stated that it wouldn't index any page that had the term "link" or any alpha numeric characters in their URL. What you could do is to create a link page and have your partners links put in that page.Name the page as domain{dot}com/partners/category(dot)html and try getting that page cached.Once that is done you could ask your partners to do the same. This will enable you to get a backlink and traffic if that page is properly highlighted.

Although it's a nice thing that you implemented LEs on the subpages of your website, I still think it'd be better if you work on boosting your homepage's PR first by letting the reciprocal links point to it; then you could work back on the subpages.

What do you/they mean by alpha numeric characters? Question marks and such? Wow, that would knock out 1000s of sites.

that is if your homepage has good quality but in some thought wouldn't be your homepage look much welcoming if you will be putting your link partners in it? there will be instances that you may drive your visitors away for the reason that instead that they will stay long in your site they will be clicking a link directing them to your link partner...

My advice for you is to spend more time on one way links rather than focusing on reciprocate, reciprocate link if excessively done might cause you some trouble with Goolge.

Hi,
i think you collect some high pr and relevant back links also you can submit some article it's give some boost of your site.
Thanks!
I think that it'll be better to ask your link partners to point the links to your homepage instead..That page should be your priority

Agreed!
More back links to your site will help your site to improve your ranking at major search engine.

It only has benefits traffic-wise for both parties and SEO-wise on your site and not to those sites.
As what has already been suggested, ask them to point to your home-page so as to raise PR. This will eventually entice more submissions in the future.

The question on whether the homepage or web pages whould be linked was answered by many already so I thought to make a comment on this (quote) instead..

One way links are great. But a lot of sites do not entertain this idea. Most of them do link exchanges of will only agree to a one way backlink for a fee. I know because this is a project I'm working on right now and it has not yield positive results yet (my niche probably is a factor, but still).

Yes i agree it's more helpful that you get Link from one way Link exchange because now a days one way Link more useful than the reciprocal one.

Yup, But many forums today is switching to rel=nofollow and directory submissions take a month to approve. Why I'm taking a change to link with related site using link exchange and blogging.
