I don't think there is an SEO benefit from Stumbleupon as all the links are nofollow but from crawling standpoint yes it has a good value.

I have only recently started to use social media sites such as digg and stumble upon. I have bookmarked most of the articles and pages on my website that are important. So far I have not seen much improvements except for the odd few hits here and there. How long should i wait to see any meaningful improvements in website traffic. It has been about a month since I started book marking my pages. What else can I do.

I agree with that. I just discovered the stumble upon technique recently. I believe it helps in creating traffic for your site. Not sure yet with page rank and SERP though.

Last time I checked with StumbleUpon, I saw that the links are nofollow.. I think StumbleUpon concentrates more in getting traffic to your site. I wouldn't count on it for backlinks and PR though.

I know that the traffic itself might not be super targeted but i have always rated stumbleupon and like someone has already mentioned if you build your profile and network of friends it does seem to yield better results.

Nofollow means the link is not read by the search engine crawlers, therefore not beneficial in SEO terms since it is not counted in the rankings.

Yes. StumbleUpon does bring traffic but not sure how high quality the traffic is. Don't think it does much for SERP rankings. IMHO

I will extend my comments to mention that by itself I don't think Stumble helps out a lot but incorporated into a larger plan of interlinked social type of site and web 2.0 sites which eventually lead back to your target site than it may have some merit.

When bookmarking your blog's contents in social sites, it is best not to do so at a frequent and continuous pace. I usually give some distance between my posts, adding other sites and pages to my bookmarks before bookmarking another one of my posts. I also sometimes just bookmark the page that I think are relevant and will pull in an audience to my blog or site.

With stumbleupon you definitely have to use it a lot to start getting traffic to your site, but once you do it flows for awhile.

One thing that I have been trying on my articles is to put the stumble button on the site a few times throughout the article. It seems to have resulted in more stumbles.
