I think getting traffic using link building take time but it depends on how competitive your keywords is. Using online classifieds like craiglist.org will earn your site lots of traffic.

This would depend on a lot of factors.. your keywords are one factor, as mokmok69 stated. Then there's also your targeted market, on how your going to reach out to them (social networks, email marketing, blogs, etc.). You'll need to focus on sites and communities that you're sure would be interested in your site to get traffic.

Assuming it's a new site, you should build links slowly and as the site ages. Only get quality links from sites that are relevant. Unfortunately, it takes time, but if you get too many links too fast, google can penalize you for link spamming. There are serveral forums that have sections on getting backlinks and plenty of free guides. Search and read more of those and you may find some good tips you didn't know about before.

Since your site is new try to target a less competitive keywords which will help your site to drive traffic while you are targeting competitive keywords.
