Hello every one!:)

What is Keyword research(KWR)?

I think that Keyword research is the selection of keywords to optimize your site. Keywords are also known as search terms which match with the string. Due to which it plays an important role in SEO.

Some major factors related to KWR-
1.Selection of correct, relevant and appropriate keywords.
2.Placement of keywords at a proper location.
3.Submission of web site to directories and search engines.
4.Major the keyword density-This ratio should range between 2 to 8%.

Apart from this i think that content matters allot. If your web page content is rich and good, then your page will definitely come on good search page rank.

All the best........

Your points are quite true but they relate to the engines that are heavily dependent upon Onpage factors.

Many times, websites with fewer related text documents can outperform their competitors by having powerful one way links.

I think keyword density is still relevant today. Its easier to rank high consistently if you high keyword density.

Of course Keyword Research is the first process of SEO. Without keyword research we will not know the competitive keywords and keywords with high traffic

One thing we do for all our clients is Report on Competition Analysis, and Report on Keyword Popularity. Then between these 2 we also test landing pages... You see some people may not have the competition as others may have. We also target geographical areas, where the smaller businesses may find that more attractive as a parameter rather than just organic searches.
There is more to it than just keywords, there are also Short tail" and "long tail" key phrases, Analysis of user search behavior, Competitor benchmarking, Search engine inclusion factors, I can go on and on.
I hope that helps :)

KW research and analysis is one of the important tasks of an SEO. As much as possible, I keep track on my keywords performance, behavior and stats on search engines using different KW tools - which will help in so many web marketing aspects.

I came in the forum to try to help, if I could, somebody new, yet now I have a question. I read a book prior to coding my sites and I'm happy with my seo and results. The thing is, I'm going into the SEo business and online advertising in the future: and so with that in mind and the relevant points above regarding the KWR, you can do this research by putting up test pages and using your clients info - if they have analytics featured on their site that is, or some info gathering code feature. But can info. and stats be gained from the SE's on KW's in a geographical area on their input in total. Not site particular, SE particular. If you get my meaning, Can I say to a client or factor in for myself the answer to a question such as:

How many times was the word, 'gift' or 'music' or any word, Kw ETC, also then how many times it was in a long tail phrase. I know about (thanks to being linked - sent from these forums) seotools and the like to get my KW / url / SE stats. but as I say in general term how many times does the search engine recieve these term, KWs in searches , no matter who the searcher clicks through to.
Maybe I'm being stupid and this is guarded info that only the engines know.
I'll also add my voice to the masses of aproval for KWR = has gotten me to PR1 and 2 (with the big2) for my sites in a matter of months, in a crowded area, with obvious content rich , non rule breaking coding. MSN is still a mystery tho. I was PR1 no.1 for about a month there all of a sudden, and now i've disappeared again, never to be found. Thats all ok tho.
thanks for any reply, interest etc.
