View Full Version : Best Keyword Search Tool

Everyone, we have a website that does well. But... I still don't know if we are optimizing for the best keywords in our industry... ie.. I don't know what the most common searches for words or phrases for our industry are. Also, I don't know how to see what keywords or phrases my competitors are using.
Let's say we are a plumbing site in Atlanta. My guess is the most common search is atlanta plumbers. But I am not sure....
What tool (I am happy to buy or pay for this monthly) would you use for the information I need above?
Thanks so much for any suggestions.

There is no accurate one, my advice is to compare the results from few of them and then apply some search to check the paid ads for the term, that will help you to evaluate the keyword competition

Usually I use a keyword density tool from web, then I add in the meta keyword only the first 2-3 keywords.... if you put more the search engine will consider the extra keywords as spam... the best is max 4 keywords.

The keyword research is one of the most important step in Search Engine Optimization as this helps to optimize website content to get more traffic from search engines. In addition to the above mentioned tools, add Trellian's Keyword Discovery.. offers a free trial version and paid version.

Hi vitebseo,
I agree that the google's keyword research tool is very good one but the keyword research is becoming highly competitive these days so it'd be better to use more than one tools to carry out the keyword research. Using more than on research tools helps us to compare and refine results.

True, Google Adwords Tool would be enough to do some basic keyword researching. There are other Keyword Tools around but on subscription base.

Just make sure your keywords match what your content has. Can't rank on keywords you don't have in your content. Kind of a dumb tip, but it's true. Many people do this and fail miserably at ranking.

Hi. A few month ago I'm found very usefull Keyword Tool.
Early i'm used Wordtracker and Google Adwords, but this new tool made the biggest impression on me.
It's not for free, but not as expensive as other.
And it has huge potential and opportunities. Look at this keyword tool here:

Like many previous posts, I've found the best tool to be the Google AdWords Keyword Tool. I think it gives the most relevant information for a free tool. Other free tools list search results from the past day, but this gives results from the past month.
It's easy to work with if you haven't launched your website, unlike others which help you only when you have an existing domain.

I think a lot of the replies here have placed Wordtracker on the list as a keyword tool and I would have to agree that this is a great way to see what keywords are being searched and in what volume they are being searched in. You could also use the Google Adwords Keyword tool to determine what searches are being dedicated to what keywords in Google. Even though its often times used for PPC campaigns the reconnaissance is still useful for researching keywords for organic search... and it also gives you insight into the advertiser competition. Spyfu.com and Keyword Spy are also great sites to check out for this purpose. Here's a short list for you.
Wordtracker.com
Keywordspy.com

Hope this helps,

WordTracker is the most comprehensive keyword selection tool available in the market today. They compile a database of terms that people search for over the major search engines. WordTracker contains a powerful "lateral search" feature to locate all your related keywords.
