I don't think anybody will reveal the detailed stats of their keyword research and how they gained the first position.
You can only get general idea from experts.

Just consistently build quality links from multiple sources with varied link anchor text. Also keep adding unique content to your website. Don't rely too much on any one link build strategy.
If you want long term success, avoid anything spammy. Keep it all looking natural.

Fascinating...seems like an odd question bvut I will say this, I have consistently achieved first page rankings with...ready???... IMAGES in google....I tag ALL my images with keywords I am targeting and lo and behold..tada! Google images likes them....and there is my URL right under the image. Now..a lot of you might say..so what...well..go ahead....but Google images receives almost 10percent of Googles total traffic.
But as far as revealing any keywords???....Nahhhhhh..thats for you to do your own research I think...Just like all of us.
Just my opinion

Sorry Gary but Google image traffic is nothing to brag about. That is extremely low quality traffic. Nobody really cares about Google image rankings either. It is really only worthwhile for certain niches...fashion, celebrities, wallpapers, etc.

Actually..thats alright...Tell my paypal account. I certainly am not complaining....I look at it as just another stream of revenue....and whats even better..the more people who ignore it..the better. Leaves more for marketers like myself to take advantage. Maybe you haven't had success with it..who knows...but many have.
So..we agree to disagree

lol...your big marketing strategy is to put alt tags on your images and you call yourself a marketer?
I have success with real internet marketing...not junk image marketing. There's far more money to be made via regular organic search compared to Google Images.

Jeremy..as it seems you just fly off the handle..read the post....as I said...its a stream....another way to get your website in front of people. You don't have to agree with it..In fact..I'm glad you don't..as I said..not all do...and nor is it a main strategy..but..you assumed that.
Again..the more times your website is visible..the better..wouldnt you agree?
Maybe not..
But thats Ok

Hey it was the marketing strategy you chose to brag about as if you're some genius. I'll take my river of traffic any day over your stream of traffic. Quality traffic is far better than junk traffic. The people on the forum should know this before they go and take your advice and try to rely on Google Images for good traffic.

As I said...a stream, a tactic..it works..and it works well...just because YOU haven't had it work for you...well..enough said. I would think that anytime...your site shows up in front of peoples eyes...the better...maybe you don't...but like I said...thats ok, to. Bragging..yes..a bit..because I've seen results...
If it goes against your philosophy...that's fine to. As far as saying you should rely on it?? hmmmmmm...I don't think I ever mentioned that...
But then again..assumptions
And I reiterate...I'm actually glad we disagree...the more who ignore it the better....
Just my opinion

Give me your domain name, and I'll tell you exactly which keywords you currently rank for and which keywords you both have or had on PPC. That's no secret anymore!
Why do you think people call me "Web Intelligence Shiper"?!
I'm just putting the site together, but look at it. Once I have it up and running, you might even find out more about your website than you knew before!

Somebody told me to use not so popular keywords, but still being searched, to avoid competition.
..will it be worth it?
Here's a way to find out.
1) run the keyword phrase in Google and look at the number of competing pages in the upper right hand corner of the screen. For example, let's use "child abuse prevention". Today, there are exactly 32,000,000 competing pages for this keyword term.
2) now that you have the results page in front of you, go to the keyword phrase field, and in front of the phrase type in allintitle: so that it now looks like this: allintitle:child abuse prevention. Now you get the real competition number. On my screen this morning, it's 45,800. THIS is your true competition. Write this number down.
3) Go to the Google Adwords Keyword tool and type in the keyword phrase: "child abuse prevention". It will tell you what the average monthly traffic is. Today, I see it as 22,200 average hits per month.
4) Now compute the KEI value. This is just an index, but one of the more important factors in figuring out if you really want to compete for this keyword phrase. Unless it's in a real low volume industry, I usually don't suggest that my customers pursue any keywords with a KEI index of lower than 300 - 400. So let's figure the KEI value for this keyword phrase.
5) Here's the formula: average monthly hits ^ 2 / competition. In other words it's 22,200 * 22,200 / 45/800 = 10,760.7. This is a good keyword phrase. But there are other factors too.
How much on page optimization has been done? What is the Inbound Link Authority of the competition? What is the annual cycle on traffic? These are just a few of the things that you have to look at before you decided to throw your hat in!
If you want to learn more, visit my website WebIntelligenceSniper dot com. I'm just in the process of bringing it up, but I'll have tips and great content there. Just give me a few more days to complete what I've started!
See you on the other side!

Getting high rankings on Google is a simple two-step process:
1. You must optimize your web page contents so that Google can find out what your website is about. Optimize your web pages for your keywords so that Google knows that your website is relevant to these keywords and your topic.
2. Other websites must confirm that your website is about that topic. That's what inbound links are for.
