Hello...I'm working on doing some traffic analysis for a client and could use help locating some tools and/or sites to find data. Here's what I'm looking for:
[1] A way to find the #'s on search engine traffic volume for queries per a list of keywords. (i.e. - finding how much "basketball" is searched monthly across Google, Yahoo and MSN)
[2] A way to find out on what page a couple of URLs rank across each search engine per the list of keywords. (i.e. - where does "nba.com" and "playbasketball.com" rank across the search engine traffic for "basketball" and "play basketball" on a couple different search engines)
My apologies if this info has already been listed out in another post. I've done quite a bit of digging in the forums and across the web for this info. I've found bits and pieces of it here and there...but I haven't found any tools that either (1) do it all or (2) that aren't spread out across a ton of sites. Most of what I've found would take a long time to compile manually.
Now if that's the only way to do it...that's fine. Figured that I'd check here with some folks first though to see if anyone knows of a better way to go about finding this info. Thanks in advance for any and all help...it's greatly appreciated!

Thx for the suggestions SaadSEO! I'd found those but they couldn't quite do everything that I need...at least that's what I gathered after playing with them for a few minutes a piece the other day. Am I off on that?

Welcome :)

Google Keyword tool can tell how much search traffic a particular keyword gets (in Google). I think this is by far the most accurate tool out there. Wordtracker can also give you the same information but their database is only limited to dogpile & MetaCrawler.
Yahoo used to have a tool that could tell you the search volume, but that tool (overture) was last updated in January 2007 and after that they sort of died away. I dont think that tool is even public at the moment, But I may have seen it inside Yahoo Search Marketing (You need to sign up for that).
I think you should just go with the Google Keyword Tool as it will give you a good estimate of the search volume in Google.
Then you can verify that data in Google Trends. So say you have found keyword 1 and keyword 2.
Go to GTrends and Enter Keyword1, Keyword 2 and click search and you should see a nice graph of which keyword has more search.
Then you can also use Google Trends Insight (another tool by google), you will see a lot of other options (Geo targeting, Time-date etc).
If you looking to find a lot more keywords including Long tails, you can use some of the paid tools that are out there:
Keyword Spy
Keyword Country
Key Compete
Keyword Discovery
[2] A way to find out on what page a couple of URLs rank across each search engine per the list of keywords. (i.e. - where does "nba.com" and "playbasketball.com" rank across the search engine traffic for "basketball" and "play basketball" on a couple different search engines)
There are plenty of tools that can do this. The one that I can think of right now is "Seobook rank checker" (google it). I believe SEOmoz also has one. Just google "rank checker" and you should find some tools...
But i believe keyword research is more than just playing with these tools. If you are using these to find a 'niche' to start something new then i should warn you that sometimes they are not 'accurate'. The results may be tempting but once you go down the road you may find your primary keyword useless.
So before using these tools you should do a bit of brainstorming first. I did a write up on keyword research, since I can put any Urls here - you can just go to google and search for "Keyword research tutorial" and you should be able to find me in Pos #3-4 (depending on your location). The title is - Keyword Research - A Complete Walkthrough.
Hope this helps.
