Hello All,

Since about - forever - Google has showed 12 BL for my site. Now,
I understand that the Big 'G' doesn't list all the BL it knows about, showing just
a small portion of them, but today I noticed that I have 30 to my credit.

I know, I know - ONLY 30 BL's, and I'm happy about that?

Now, my 151~179 SERP shot up! I'm sitting at a nice 61 now. I say nice b/c
I've been sandboxed for quite a while, and jumped out of it at #179. I've been
between 151~179 on 'G' ever since - until today...

I stil think that this number (link:www.domain.com) is not some important measure becose it show useless stuff.

Better use @www.domain.com

What about using www.site.com -site:www.site.com and manually look at your actuall backlinks on the pages? I think it shows more links that way. But it can take a lot of time... :D

That doesn't always show the correct number. Our best bet from the search engines is http://siteexplorer.search.yahoo.com/ right now.

And ideas to count unique links in Yahoo! (only one link per domain)?

Have you checked out this tool http://www.webuildpages.com/neat-o/ ?

If you like, I would start a "Site Explorer Wish List" thread in the Yahoo forums and I can get the Yahoo folks to reply to it. They specifically asked me for a wish list on that tool, and I did send them my own thoughts...

Thank you, I already knew that. Is this tool the one which freezes if your page has too backlinks? I remember something about, I think is this tool.

rustybrick: could be a good idea open a wish list.

It is safe to say that the data from link: domain etc on Google is useless. Matt (Cutts) has stated that this command now shows a 'selection' of backlinks.

Hello All,

We know that Google doesn't show all it's BLs, true, and so checking
up on them seems a bit pointless, but it seems more than a coincidence
to me that since the greater BL statistics from the Big 'G', I'm now ranking in
47th for a keyphrase that results in 169,000,000 (#2 - MSN | #4 Yahoo) ;)

Does anyone see any changes in their BLs - AND a change for the better in SERPS?

A better way to check backlinks in google is to search for specific pages.

For example:

link:www. domain.com
link:www. domain.com/page1.html
link:www. domain.com/page2.html
link:www. domain.com/dir1/page1.html
....

Its still not complete, but at least you know that they *Know* about the other backlinks.

This tool ==> http://www.seologs.com/pagerank/prv2/pagerankv2.html will also show backlinks from Google that don't show up on a simple link query.

Hello Vermontwebmaster,

Does anyone see any changes in their BLs - AND a change for the better in SERPS?
So are you seeing a gain in SERPS for your targetted kw(s) with your pre
Jagger IBLs?

On and off yes. I am seeing a big gain when the test DC shows up..

So in your experience (I love picking OTHER people's brains :p ), how long before
all, or most, of the datacenters reflect the ones used for testing?

A guess based on what Matt C said on his blog would be this.. 2 data centers are currently showing the test results 1 or 2 more maybe added this week and it is not expected to spread to all DC's until after Christmas.. Hopefully this help's.

Google are currently running all sorts across their datacentres. They are holding back tests to certain DC's.

We just may have a great Christmas present from 'G'!

Thanks!

Well as of a few hours ago the real BL update has started.. I have jumped and they are not Pre Jagger this time.. I am also hearing chatter of some PR bouncing but I have not seen any PR changes.

Yeah. I can see a couple of backlinks for my new site in Google.

espmartin,

I can relate to your experience, but not with backlinks listed on Google, but rather, Similar Pages.

When our Similar Pages jump up in number, we often find that our ranking does as well.

Put another way, if one of our sites is ranking poorly, it often has no similar pages.

Sufyaaan. Great tool by the way. It shows anchor text of sites I never knew linked to my homepage... such as...

"If I find this guy, I will kill him"
"This clown owes me money"
"Loser"
and
"Lock up your daughters"
