I have received this.....

Am i right in thinking that the company is simply using my space to build links for their clients to improve their placement....

I cannot help but think that there must be a downside for me?

We are interested in advertising text links on the bottom of your forum, or other websites that you might own/manage.

ZTMC works with a database of hundreds of thousands of sites that advertise in a network, from kids sites to big corporate sites. Every topic imaginable is represented, with the exception of pharmaceutical, warez, adult and gambling sites. Again, no pharmaceutical, warez, adult or gambling sites ads are displayed. We would like to display five sites randomly at the bottom of every page of your site (in a common footer). For this, I'd propose a monthly fee paid each month in advance.

The agreement would last a month at a time (paid upfront).

These are not banners, they are simple one line text links. You can theme them with size and color to fit your site as you see fit. I'd prefer them at the bottom of the site and you can label them as sponsored or advertiser's sites if you wish.

We are contacting as many large forums as I can find. Why forums? Because we find that many sites can use the money/sponsorship to help grow their sites and the site growth can also help us.

Please contact me if this interests you. I can show you the examples of these ads on existing sites and hopefully we can agree on a monthly fee that will be mutually beneficial.

Thank you for your time,

The down side is that you don't know what links will be placed there. You don't have the advantage of checking those sites out to see if they are in a "bad neighborhood" or not. Your site will be "voting" for sites that may be banned in the search engines. What will that get you? A bad reputation with the search engines and possibly some heavy penalties or a ban.

Possibly some heavy penalties or a ban.

This is almost guaranteed unless you very very lucky..

See if the company is ready to reveal the 5 sites which it is talking about. If you find those sites legitimate and matching your forum content, go for it. But if not strictly abstain yourself from it.
