Thread: Google Partial Penalization

    Default Google Partial Penalization

I read some reports about poor rankings caused by poor SEO or by partial penalization.

Partial penalization is probably due to bad or duplicated content, but Google will never tell you about it. A proper measure of this unfortunate punishment is really necessary for SEOs.

Is there any method to detect Partial Penalization, other than painful experiments?

    Thanks.

Check to see if your website (pages) are in the supplemental index - if so you have been partialy penalized for duplicate content.

Default % of pages in the Supp. index

I analyzed 9 sites of mine, and I calculated:

Indexation rate= URLs Shown in Normal SERP / URLs Shown in Supps.

Those sites with low indexation rate look penalized, having worse rankings than average. Sites with high rate behave well.

    Can anyone confirm this assumption?

If your URLs are in supplemental it could be because of duplicate title/contents or because of cryptic URLs. You should have unique titles, content, description for every URL. If you have cryptic URLs with many paramenters, it is better to rewrite your URLs to more SE friendly URLs using mod_rewrite or similar techniques.

I think you can get partial penalties for alot of diffrent things, one of my pages has been temporarily removed from google's index a couple of times just for 24 hours, there was alot of keyword repetition on this page, and I have taken it as a warning and revised the content! The 30 position penalty is the stangest thing i have seen recently, I only heard about this the other day this guy who I do a bit of biz with showed me one of his sites that has been hit by this, it's really interesting it will not rank above position 30 no matter what, it ranks 30 for some well competitive phrases and it has a PR5 but it will never go above 30, before it got penalised it was no.1 for many phrases, now it's never above 30 even if you type in the exact URL, He got the site penalised by using some sort of scam to get backlinks from Google.com I'm not to sure what he did exactly, but he has fixed it now and it is 6 months on and he is still hit with this 30 position penalty.

I've never heard of anything like that before, I'd expect it's more coincidental than Google actually penalising his website so that it can't rank above the 30th position.

It's not coinsidental, he has been hit by a 30 position penalty!

I've just looked into this and there was a WebmasterWorld thread about the minus 30 penalty from last month.

I did doubt this was true but the thread suggests that Google are applying manual penalties to reduce websites rankings by 30 positions.

    Default -30 penalty

I have one site damaged by the -30 penalty and one by total banning.

My current interest now is to check the limit for allowed duplication in some spare domains.

Children, do not try this at home site...
