    Barry, Gabs:

I've been looking at this extensively for several days. It is a killer ap.

It comes into play if a business/site has entered their information into Google Maps. Do a search for a business type and a geo description where the business/site is located and if they are the only one of its type entered in Google Maps they will get a #1 ranking and the map. That is a killer marketing tool.

It works extremely well for businesses in cities. If you are searching for a business service in or around a city; say Denver; you might search for it with a state or city name. Say you are looking for a dog walking service in Omaha Nebraska. The search might be dog walking service omaha, or dog walking service Nebraska.

If you are the only one with an Omaha address AND entered into Google Maps you will get a #1 ranking with the map.

That is a killer application and marketing advantage.

So far I found a couple of examples in different cities where the business shows for some killer money phrases.

When more than one business in the city is entered into Google maps then the old serps rankings will hold and the onebox will appear above the serps with a list of the rankings from Google Maps.

It is critical for local businesses to get their sites registered in G maps.
