Thread: Personalized Search

  1. Default Personalized Search

Do you think this will make our jobs more challenging? I do not see very much conversation occuring on the subject yet. The post that I saw was from last month.

Today, google must be really ramping up the personalized search, because I am seeing the ugly highlighting at the top of all the google serps while reviewing our client log files.

For those of you that have not read up on google personalized search

Atleast you can turn it off and on!

Yes, it should play a major role in the future of SEO.

Care to elaborate, it seems that what ever the Engines throw at us we seem to recover from. Just another curve ball?

Not much to say. It would be a tad hard to perform basic SEO if no one has the same result for a specific keyword. Hard to measure ranking reports and so on.

So the game will change eventually.

I wouldn't worry about this today. Probably have at least a year or two until you see significant enhancements in personalized search.

I don´t think this is a big problem. Okay, there is not a definite ranking for a keyword. But instead of tracking my ranking I have a look at my referers yet. My daily visitors from Google are for me far more important than some positions.

I was thinking much more for my clients. Let’s say they add a new product to their website. This product is a mp3 player. So how do you get the product to be at the top of Google for searchers who use personalized search? Since the searcher always visit ipod brand websites? Even if you have relevant content will Google ignore your mp3 player because this searcher has never had any interest in any other brand? (Note I am assuming that this is not a new mp3 player; as Google would have to throw brand new stuff to the top just test if searchers like it)

It seems that to me that it will become increasingly important to be in the top 5 slots of page one; as searchers using personalized search will be spoiled by great results and never look to page two or even scroll for that matter on page one.
