Social networking sites are no follow but great to generate good traffic while you can get benefit of backlinks and little bit traffic from do-follow forums.

I agree with dhwanit , but one should know how to divert traffic from social networking site to his/her website. You can even use article submission sites and blog submission which will help you in both traffic and PR

i'll agree with Shruchi that for increasing your traffic you should do article submissions etc. you should try more like directory submissions,forum posting,internet marketing,blog posting etc.

I've definitely noticed a difference for articles that I'll submit to the social news/bookmarking sites.

The dofollow forums and posts help as well, be sure to contribute to the discussion and craft your posts around what the site is geared for rather than bulk messages.
