Google Adwords Tip #1
Hello
I would like to share a quick tip when marketing a local business on Adwords.
If I'm setting up a new campaign for a local business here in Atlanta, I would naturally set the campaigns Geo Target to only display in Atlanta, and maybe surrounding areas. Well, here is the problem with that... I'm pretty sure Google is only going to display my ads to people with Atlanta IPs, so I'm missing out on tons of other searches with out-of-town ips. Growing in popularity... those AT&t wireless connect cards are almost always out-of-town IPs.
In short, here is the solution: I create another campaign targeted nationally and include the city in front and behind each keyword. Make sure to use exact match and phrase match only so you don't killed with broad match crap.
Now you wont be missing that valuable traffic!

Strategy looks solid despite not using adwords it makes logical sense

hmm, I never considered that wireless would be a non local ip address.
I learned something already and I've not been here long enough to rate a sig file
(will stay around if I'm gonna learn more like that, you probably just saved me money!)

It's a good strategy but what if the users located in Atlanta use the keywords without "Atlanta" prefix..? So you already lost that potential traffic.
Anyway by far your strategy is the most optimized one for this special situation.

what if the users located in Atlanta use the keywords without "Atlanta" prefix?
Then the "local" Atlanta Geo targeted campaign will pick it up :-)

That's a great valid point! I also never thought of that but it makes great sense and I'm sure it works. Thanks for sharing.

Below are the some tips for google adwords:
1. Make sure that your ad is relevant
2. Hold and release the Google ad from you. If you have a few search terms, then simply make a few different ads.
3. Always test multiple versions of your ads and see which works best.
4. Track your results. Easy, right? See if what you pay, it is worth going for.
