Thread: Demographics Added to AdWords

    Default Demographics Added to AdWords

Now this is huge, and probably in response to MSN's adCenter.

SEW has the scoop at http://blog.searchenginewatch.com/blog/060308-200902

    Gender, Age, Income, Ethnicity, Children.

It is worth noting that the AdWords demographic offerings are much more detailed than what adCenter offers. Presently, adCenter allows demographic targeting by gender and age group, however adCenter splits age between five age groups while AdWords offers six. Both also offer regional targeting, which adCenter has within their demographic options.

Finally, Google chasing after MSN. Interesting turn of events.

FYI - they get this info from comScore Media Metrix and its US based only, so if you are not geo targeting US, you wont see these options.

It is only for "site targeted" campaigns.

I tried it out earlier today and the recommended sites are not very on topic with my demographic. I would have like to see this implemented where you can target a topic AND demographic. It's definately a step in the right direction. I like how it's cross platform so unlike targeting demos across AOL and/or spyware, which are installed locally, this targeting applies to any machine the user is logged in on.

It lists a number of sites and doesn't seem to have any demographic variables in common.

How would you have any insight into a site's demographic? Wild guess?

IMO Comscore data is top notch.
