Default Don't Enable GoogleBot To Delete All Your Pages

Via Digg, I found this write up http://www.thedailywtf.com/forums/65974/ShowPost.aspx

A person accidently left open "edit" links on the front end of the content. GoogleBot clicked away and kept on clicking, hitting the delete button, until all the pages on the site have been deleted.

    Ouch!

That is rather funny. I can imagine the surprise on that guys face when he found out all those documents were gone. So much for security.

I love what the company's safety measure is to prevent future occurances.

"they told the client to NEVER copy paste content from other pages."

Simply changing your user-agent in firefox gives you COMPLETE access to their CMS system. Go government internet know how! I feel completely safe that my privacy is protected

Another reminder why backups are a good idea!

I wish the GoogleBot would click my buy buttons over and over again. . . . as long as it has a valid credit card.

This actually happened to me once with Alexa - I knew that no robots could find the space to crawl it, but Alexa used the data from my being on the site with the toolbar and deleted everything. It's pretty embarassing - lucky we had a backup of the data from the day before.

Read that on Digg yesterday as well. Had a little chuckle to myself. Although a few years ago I might have done that myself so the chuckle was tainted

That is quite funny. Though I feel for them. Those are the days you just should have stayed home.

The system is hardly worth calling security. Hope they patch it up, or their site is going to fill up with outbound links from everyone who figures out where the domain is.
