Have been experiencing this problem with YPN for a 4+ months now. My thoughts were that Google did a much better job targeting ads......
Even with the "mortgage" and other generic ads, the payout from YPN was about 3x more than AdSense....so I stuck with it. Figured...OK..I am getting 1/3rd the clicks I was from AdSense, but I am making the same money.. With YPN being in beta, they are soliciting feedback from publishers...and I have expressed how I found AdSense to be 1000x better in targeting. About 6-8 weeks ago I fielded a call from an AdSense rep...wanting to know why I had switched....Seems she saw my AdSense revenue was down and I was displaying YPN. I told her everything I just posted, and of course....she tried her best to put a spin on it and make it seem as if I was using an inferior product, and that revenue..if it hadn't already will be sure to drop with YPN. But in this conversation, she did say something to me which made sense...she suspected that YPN deliberately delivered these untargeted ads, because they are much more costly (per click)..and even if the YPN payout was less of a % than AdSense, because those ads gen'd maybe $10 per click instead of $2 per click...I saw higher payouts. This did make some sense to me. I do block a lot of ads (competitors) from being delivered by YPN, but I did the same with AdSense, and Google still managed to deliver lots of relevant ads. I advertise with YSM, so I know they too have plenty of alternate ads they can deliver that are relevant....but seems a lot are generic in nature. So, about 2 weeks ago, I fielded a call from the AdSense rep, asking me to beta test a new AdSense program, where I can specify keywords in the AdSense code, thus delivering ads on any topic I wish. With holidays and other stuff..I never did manage to get with her on it......but she sent me an email outlining how the program works, and it is real simple. Anyone heard or have experience with this AdSense feature? I will be looking at this and possibly giving it a whirl. Google has expressed that their goal with advertising is to deliver targeted ads...no matter where or how the ads are displayed throughout Google and/or their network. If publishers can stuff keywords in their AdSense code for the highest paying keywords (asbestos, cancer, etc..).....then this can and more than likely will lead to more nonsense sites displaying AdSense. So..for now..I still run YPN, and am seeing payouts still of about 3x more. If I do switch to the AdSense beta..I will post my findings. |

Looks like the YPN ads are getting more relevant.
