When writing new articles for your niche, is it better to add them to your web content via links BEFORE submitting them to article publishing sites?

Or can you add them to your site after they've been published and still reap the same SEO benefits?

I have seen few sites where you can edit and add your links in the body of the article or signature afterwards

Your content should be unique for your site. But for the article submission are different from this.
