That's a tough story to swallow. I'm not sure it's a market they should be entering - I'd be very concerned about the monopolistic trends of a firm who rules the computer experience from desktop to search to browser to toolbars and beyond....
We're looking at another MS with this development.

Here's something from Philipp Lenssen over at Google Blogoscoped. Seems he got word from Google that they infact do use it internally but arent planning on releasing it to the public.

If I'm google and I'm competing w/ Microsoft on search and other things if I can come up with something that takes market share from either of Microsoft's two cash cows, the OS or Office Suite, I'll do it. If market share starts drying up and prices go down it mays Microsofts big advantage in total cash starts diminishing.
If I'm Microsoft and I can increase market share on MSN and start sucking up ad dollars then google's cash cow starts diminishing. In either case it helps me out for long term survival and plenty of more competition for many years. If Goobantu works well I'd bet it could go out on the market. Dave |

I wanted to bring in Search Engine Roundtable coverage...
My entry covering this thread named Google OS "Goobuntu" in Development. Nacho's entry on Google OS in the Works? in June 05. And Ben's entry on Google Developing An Internet Operating System?from back in March 2005.
