Surely the business world won't let Google, Yahoo, MSN and Amazon keep contextual advertising all to themselves will they?

I think that all they have to do is show they can do a better job than the competitors and they can win a market share in this battle. Unlike search, the market is savvy and ready to switch at a hair's breath if the right product comes along.

I hope they are more responsive to their publishers as compared to google. Amazon's affiliate program is good and they do have the resources to give google and yahoo a good run for their money.
