Yeah, I witnessed the same verification process a few days back while sending an email from Yahoo! Mail. And that was the first and the last time as I haven't been able to see it again since then.

Weird. There must be alot of hacked accounts if they are asking a user to verify sending his/her own email. With Yahoo! Messenger being tied in directly to your mail accounts this is probable. I once had a trojan that keystroked my username and password when I logged into Yahoo Messenger and some dip had access to not only my Messenger but also to my email account. Erased all my emails and I have no idea what he sent out before he did that.

I think Yahoo must have detected some massive sending of automated emails by some virus/trojan/worm and have blocked it by implementing image verification OR they must be testing some new features (security measures) recently...

Yahoo still require image verification but only does it randomly now as oppose to a few months ago when it seemed like it was required every time. Not really a big deal either way.

It happened to me thrice but not always. Maybe, it only happen when yahoo suspect that the email you received is a Spam or not secure.
