Last night I caught an episode of Boston Legal (good show by the way) and one of the issues revolved around some guy who wanted to sue the owner of a website for disgruntled women who hate their x boy friends.
Apparently, in the episode, if anyone Googled this guys name, the “I hate my x boy friend” results came up first and the guy alleged all the negative results had cost him nearly 40% of sales with his consulting business. What I thought was interesting was one of the comments made by the defendant’s lawyer. He said why don’t you create higher ranking pages so these negative comments don’t show up first? |

One of the writers of the show must be married to an SEO! LOL.

Do you guys have sweats (candy) called smarties.. Well anyway smarties are taking the blue ones off the market due to a fuss about the fact that the blue die gives you cancer.. So if you search on G for "blue smarties give you cancer" http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en...u+cancer&meta= Then smarties should try and out rank blue with white.. ![]() Bit off topic hey.. Its friday and sunday well thats my excuse.. |

They stole that story line from current events. There is a website that does this that has been on all the news shows. I forget what the url is. I'm sure somebody just thought how somebody could end up suing them. The stuff they said could have easily been deduced by a non-SEO it is not rocket science.

For the beginner, this is called "Search Engine Reputation Management" (ie. minimize negative SERP / press). It is the fastest growing segment of the SEO industry. Many of the Fortune 500 companies are implementing this now. It's a great value added service guys and gals.
Example: If KB Homes would have had a Highly Relevant Second Page (Press-Release) in place on their site, http://www.kbhomes.com, they could have answered the negative press about the stock problem they just had, by just changing the text content on this page. Then turn on "no index" so that it is not indexed (stop SERP movement). Instance response! KB Homes could then issue the formal Press Release thru normal channels. When the normal Press Release takes its position, you then change back the above to the previous content text, remove the "no index". You are back to the Highly Relevant Second Page. But instead, it took KB Homes 13 day of negative press before their answer was displayed in the SERPs, and was far down in the SERPs. Lesson Learned: KB Homes has now corrected this by adding a KB Home Reputation Management project to their SEO / SEM program. Also, I have a KB Home http://www.catanich.com/kb-homes/my-kb-home.aspom, and I love it. But to answer the "Boston Legal" topic above, it was from a great SEO firm in LA that is using this as an advertisement for "Search Engine Reputation Management" services. To the LA SEO firm. Nice one. You got great press for KB Homes. Last edited by catanich; 01-22-2007 at 02:39 PM. |
